A valuable centenary release celebrating an important, maligned voice of the last century. It is also a great coup securing Domingo in generous extracts from Don Rodrigo, the opera of which he gave the us premiere as an emerging young tenor. The Kafkaesque cantata Milena is even more impressive a work, the dream-like texts inspiring an intoxicating kaleidoscope superbly captured by Ben-Dor and soprano Virginia Tola. What a shame that her (and to some extent Domingo’s) overdubbed voice (mono?) sits so uncomfortably in the stereo sound picture of the orchestra. …

Par bonheur, le monde musical n’a pas oublié le centenaire de la naissance d’Alberto Ginastera à Buenos Aires, sans conteste le plus important compositeur argentin du XXe siècle.
