Another soprano steeped in style is Camilla Tilling, who has been at the forefront of Mozart interpretation for almost 20 years and who devotes her new album to that composer plus Gluck. Her voice remains fresh and peachy, is well-knit through its registers, and she sings with an unaffected directness, allowing the music to speak for itself without fussing over a phrase for effect. A famed Susanna (Figaro), she displays warmth and personality in ‘Deh vieni, non tardar’; her two Così fan tutte arias are beautifully delineated and differentiated – ‘Per pietà’ is particularly moving and has a time-stands- still quality; and her Gluck arias are noble in their simplicity. …
