The link between these two composers is the Orthodox faith, so to some extent the same sound-world is prevalent; but there the similarity ends. In his Stabat Mater, Part embarks on a meditative journey of deep introspection. Using his favoured tintinnabuli, the composer alternates between simple triads and dissonance in a revelation of inner pain. The excellent Goeyvaerts String Trio – using just intonation – give the performance an ethereal quality, which combines with the wonderful clarity and blend of the three singers for a simply stunning performance.
