There is an attractive vigour to Paviour’s choral music and the deftway the organ accompaniment alternates with the chorus, much in the manner of Stanford, but with obvious influences of Britten, Howells (one of his professors at the RCM in the 1950s) and perhaps Mathias. There are unexpected and charming harmonies throughout and here is a selection encompassing canticles, Christmas and Easter carols, and organ music. The singing of the Worcester Cathedral Chamber Choir is engagingly expressive with good intonation, though the blend is sometimes uneven, the quick passages occasionally unsteady, but minimally so. Here is consistently inviting music well worth exploring. …
