Schumann: Viola Works – Maxim Rysanov

Onyx Classics is excited to bring you an extensive album of works by Robert Schumann. This recording was fostered by award winning violist Maxim Rysanov, who is accompanied by renowned clarinettest Julian Bliss & pianist Dasol Kim. This release includes a handful of arrangements by Rysanov. Fantasiestücke, was originally written for clarinet and piano with alternate arrangements for violin & cello, Rysanov opted to write an equally effective arrangement for viola. Also included are Rysanov’s arrangements of Songs from Liederkreis and Dichterliebe.

Schumann’s Adagio and Allegro Op.70 which had been written for the newly patented valve horn, though he offered cello, violin or viola as alternatives. His intimate and dreamy Märchenerzählungen (fairy tales) which was written close to the composer’s death.

Closing the album is Märchenbilder which was written by Schumman while he resided in Düsseldorf, containing four rich and contrasting pieces.
