Anthems by Howells (Take him, earth), Harris (Faire is the Heaven; Bring us, O Lord) and Ireland (Greater love) are surely guaranteed a committed audience, but recording that repertoire begs the task of adding to what’s already out there. The gently inflected legato of the boys’ and girls’ voices here, well accompanied, and Andrew Lumsden’s spacious phrasing, deliver engagingly. Britten’s War Requiem Agnus Dei, plus newer contributions from Mark Blatchly (For the Fallen), Pawe? ?ukaszewski (Nunc Dimittis) and Philip Moore (At the round earth’s imagin’d corners – first recording), provide further darkly reflective works. Works by Vaughan Williams and Holst complete the CD. …
