Retrouvailles avec Brahms
En 1976, le pianiste Maurizio Pollini fait ses débuts avec la Staatskapelle de Dresde dans le titanesque Premier Concerto de Brahms, ½uvre qu’il aura l’occasion, avec le Second Concerto, de graver au disque au côté de Claudio Abbado. En 2011, après 25 ans d’absence et à l’invitation de Christian Thielemann, Maurizio Pollini découvre pour la première fois l’acoustique de la salle. Le résultat est époustouflant de maturité avec d’un côté un pianiste dont la longue carrière confère à la lecture un souffle réfléchi et intelligent, et de l’autre côté, un chef attentif pour qui le répertoire romantique allemand……

Brahms’ two piano concertos are monumental tests of stamina for any soloist. Piano lovers expect them to sound ursine, but not to recall the title of a droll orchestral work by the Czech composer Julius Fucík, translated as ‘The Bear with the Sore Head’ (Der alte Brummbär). Recorded in 2011 and 2013, before and after Maurizio Pollini’s 70th birthday, these concertos find the virtuoso in relatively good form (though most would agree that Pollini’s first recording from 1980 of the D minor concerto with the Vienna Philharmonic led by Karl Böhm is more representative of the Italian’s artistry).
