The Chilean pianist Claudio Arrau (1903- 1991) gives operatic scope to Mozart’s solo music on this recording, digging into a sometimes recalcitrant Baldwin piano for maximum emotional expression. The recital takes over 90 minutes, to the point where the experience of hearing all that Mozart in a single setting begins to get a bit much.
