Hassler is an important late renaissance/early baroque composer who studied in Venice, as Schutz and Rosenmuller were later to do. Using two splendid historic organs, both highly suitable for this music, Raml’s playing is extremely fine. The programme is well varied, with toccatas opening and closing, and canzonas, chorale settings and a large-scale Magnificat interspersed with intabulations from Lustgarten neuer teutscher providing many colourful and varied registrations.
