Er zijn van die cd’s die een mens gewoon gelukkig maken. Wat moet dit voor een fantastisch concert geweest zijn, daar in Wigmore Hall in Londen! Van Haydn tot Jerome Kern en van Rossini tot Francesco Santoliquido (ik vind het niet uit!): Joyce Di Donato en Antonio Pappano zijn een dreamteam. (Stephan Moens)

Il y a des enregistrement qui rendent heureux, tout simplement. Et quel concert ce disque a-t-il dû être, à Wigmore Hall où ce disque a été capté ! De Haydn à Jérôme Kern en passant par Rossini et Francesco Santoliquido (ça ne s’invente pas…), Joyce et Tony forment une « dreamteam ».

Judge a CD by its cover? Joyce & Tony looks like a cheesy ‘1950s Lounge Classics’ supermarket compilation saying ‘Avoid!’ Thankfully the contents are superb. Recorded live in the gorgeous acoustic of London’s Wigmore Hall, Joyce DiDonato weaves her magic from the temperamental extremes of Haydn’s Arianna a Naxos, through the luscious poetics of Santoliquado’s I canti della Serra, to a welter of hits from the American Songbook – Foster, Kern, Rodgers, Arlen and more. Her mezzo is at its peak, diction excellent and the colours infinite, ranging from a blanched piano to full blown passion. Tony Pappano accompanies, adding lashings of style and wit from the keyboard. …
