?ukaszewski was born in 1968 in Cz?stochowa, the home of the Black Madonna, and there is a strong spiritual strain running through his work. He uses relatively conventional choral sonorities, but there is always a sense of rhythmic and harmonic displacement about his work, which makes it not only difficult to deliver but curiously timeless. Tenebrae handle these pieces with typical confidence and a respectful modesty – no bravura effects. The title prayer is a perfect introduction to the composer at 50, eclectically derived from traditional sources, but with that familiar shimmer of strangeness.
