The five (occasionally six) gentlemen of Die Singphoniker are also accomplished interpreters of Lassus and their anthology of his polyphonic hymn-settings, Orlando di Lasso Hymnen, is sonorous and ceremonial, recorded with fine presence and a depth that suggests the intimacy of the Bavarian Ducal Chapel simultaneously with its liturgical gravitas. The contribution of finely tuned, crystal-toned counter-tenor Markus Geitner is particularly pleasing, but all sing with lovely lines and a fine understanding of the text. …
