This is a very curious programme. György Kurtág’s ongoing series of miniatures Játékok (Games) has reached eight volumes, the most recent scored for piano duo. Taking their cue from Kurtág himself, a selection of nine Games are interspersed with the composer’s arrangements of Bach chorales (part of another ongoing series, known as Àtiratok). I find the juxtaposition here as in other recordings curiously unsatisfying, though this is no reflection on the performances which seem very well prepared.
