This well-programmed recording takes as its title the 1954 motet by Howells in which he sets a meditation by the 17th-century poet Joseph Beaumont concerned with the mind as a place of inward refuge in which God can dwell. Seven examples of Howells’s choral music are the central focus of the disc, in which his works are set alongside works that were inspired or influenced by him, or which influenced him. With breathtakingly gorgeous tone, Rees and his Queen’s College forces have produced a gem of a CD.
