There’s much still to be done in reclaiming forgot- ten US organ music from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Rudolf Innig follows his well received survey of Horatio Parker with an enterprising programme collating four US pioneers alongside the organist’s own feisty transcription of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. Despite Innig’s committed advocacy, Dudley Buck’s lacklustre variations on The Star-Spangled Banner and truncated transcription of Rossini’s William Tell Overture fall noticeably short of inventiveness, while James H. Rogers’s transcription of Die Walkure’s ‘Fire Magic’ lacks both prerequisites, and Parker’s Revery is pleasingly lyrical but slight.
