Valer Sabadus new solo album Caro Gemello finds the Romanian countenor on what sounds like autopilot. I’m sure that no artist enters the studio in search of the soporific, but Sabadus’ vocal coloration seems pretty monochrome and it’s not until the 11th track on this album that he arrests the listener with some tonal variety. Plus his voice seems to be getting hooty, so despite his technical skills and an interesting programme, based around Farinelli and Metastasio, I felt myself switching off while listening. …
