Music publisher Carus has a unique method of showcasing individual composers. On this recording, Carus Classics features the music of Josef Gabriel Rheinberger performed by Vocalensemble Rastatt. Founded by Holger Speck, the group sing with a pure tone and great depth of feeling, and the music is beautifully phrased throughout. The composer’s unaccompanied Mass in G with its flowing, memorable harmony is easily within the grasp of amateur choirs. The equally tuneful Mass in A for women’s voices and organ is also a useful addition to the sacred repertoire.
