Rivals – Arias For Farinelli & Co.

This exquisitely intimate recital is a celebration of the wonderful performance partnership of Mindy Rosenfeld and Ronn McFarlane combining lutes, flutes and the harp. Although primarily a palette of soft sounds, the intensity of these performances and the sheer joy that the performers exude really draws listeners in so that the overall experience runs quite the full gamut of emotions. Despite the catchy title – drawn from a collection of folk tunes – there is nothing particularly eccentric or abstruse about this programme, drawing on favourites from Dowland to Handel via a few folk routes, this is an extremely attractive and engaging selection.
