This is Schnitger’s second-largest surviving organ, one of his most important, dating from 1691-92. Two organists play a varied programme of music, ranging from the Susanne van Soldt MS, Scheidt, Buxtehude, J.S. Bach, Bohm and Mozart, with the opening and closing pieces played by both organists, complete with percussion in Brande champanje. Both players are fine interpreters of the music chosen, although more sheer drama and character could be elicited from BWV 564. Luchterhandt’s own arrangements of Mozart’s familiar K265 and K501 work wonderfully well on this organ (complete with tuneful Vogelgesang). …
