Volume 3 in David Goode’s Reger survey for Signum focuses on the four monumental Fantasias & Fugues. He comes fully armed to the challenge, deftly employing the formidable resources of Bath Abbey’s IV/62 Klais organ to tackle and tame Reger’s combustible contrapuntalism and fierce technical demands. Start with the chiaroscuro drama of the op.29 Fantasia or the febrile fugue of the Symphonic Fantasia & Fugue for a measure of Goode’s head-on, take-no-prisoners approach in performances of concentrated power.
