This 3-CD box set brings together original Calliope recordings from 1979 (the six trio sonatas), 1988 (the five solo organ concertos) and 1993 (works for organ and orchestra). The pieces are dealt like a well-shuffled pack of cards, offer- ing the opportunity to compare these carefully remastered performances by Isoir spanning 14 years. The most recent record- ings (sinfonias and other cantata movements assembled to form three-movement concertos) are ably supported by Le Parlement de Musique under the direction of Martin Gester, and have the most verve. The older sonatas and concertos are still illuminating, if more wooden that many modern interpretations. …
