This attractive sequence of motets by the Maastricht-based composer and violinist Marcus Teller (1682-1728), derived from his Musica sacra (1726), one of only two published collections of his works made available in his lifetime, is here given an engaging reading under Leenders and his forces. They are responsive to Teller’s rich harmonic idiom and expressive word setting – a mixture of choral and solo – though one occasionally hankers for a little more variety of tone colour in their delivery. The solo voices, drawn from the vocal ensemble, are adequate, no more. Nevertheless, it remains a disc worthy of investigation for the curious. …
