Ad Antiqua: Music For Cello Solo – Cosimo Carovani

There are discs that are not expected, for their sound power, for the quality of the performer or even for the idea behind them. There are records that can excite through a sound painting of rare interpretative perfection. At Antiqua, the debut album of the cellist Cosimo Carovani, it is exactly one of these records and combines all the peculiarities mentioned above. Through the works of Sallinen, Britten, Tammaro, Ligeti and Carovani himself, the latter draws a clear demarcation line in the cell repertoire of the second half of the twentieth century, careful to recognize the founding principles and to underline developments and consequences that from these generative principles have arisen. A work of rare intelligence underlined by a virtuosity at the complete service of the music interpreted on one side but which in turn is careful to highlight the thought that the interpreter himself wants to give of these works.
