The sonatas of four American composers are at the center of the latest production by saxophonist Danilo Russo. Heiden, Worley, Lunde and Muczynski are certainly not the best known names on the American scene, they are nevertheless the main figures for this instrument and these pages represent in fact one of the obligatory stops for the definition of a wide and complete repertoire. Rarely or never recorded, these works undoubtedly represent a challenge accepted and won by Russo who demonstrates not only a total mastery of the instrument, but also a flexibility in going through the 4 styles that also reflect as many decades of American musical history.
