Homerton was given its Royal Charter in 2010, and a choir was formed to celebrate the occasion, attracting a piece – Homerton – by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies to a text by poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy. It’s not one of the premiere recordings here, but there are first versions of work by John Hopkins, Greta Tomlins and Ken Naylor, as well as further celebratory pieces by Trocme-Latter himself, which – alongside familiar material by Byrd, Purcell, Samuel Wesley and Stanford – give a strong impression of Homerton’s commitment not just to progressivism but to the English tradition as well.
