Oxford’s newest choral foundation has released a disc in each of its five years; in 2014 the chapel gained an exceptional new Dobson organ, which shines here. The singing is accomplished, and under the direction of Benjamin Nicholas and Peter Phillips 20th-century greats vie with renaissance polyphony for pride of place. Jonathan Dove’s Te Deum is a brilliant addition to the canon; the disc closes with Patrick Gowers’s now-classic Viri Galilaei. Finzi (Lo, the full, final sacrifice) and Harris (Faire is the heaven) offer further reasons to snap this recording up. Organ playing from the scholars is top-notch and the singing from these young voices is always unforced and balanced. …
