Bartok is certainly one of the most important figures of the historical twentieth century, able together with a few others to change, redefine and shape the very course of music. Both through a profound renewal in the compositional style, both for the extensive studies in ethnomusicology, which with him he experienced the first real steps, and for the innate capacity for synthesis between the popular world that surrounded him and the personal universe of sound. From this union came some of his most important and iconic compositions such as the opera Il Mandarino Meraviglioso, presented here in the form of a Suite by the Trio Diaghilev, and above all the Sonata for two pianos and percussion (here played by a single percussionist), a masterpiece absolute and unique in this formation, which still today constitutes an essential cornerstone for the understanding of twentieth century music. The interpretation of the Trio is the most solid and powerful one can imagine, careful to return the visionary strength that is innervated in every single page and also to underline the extreme modernity and subversive charge of these works that still today after decades does not hint at the least running out.
