Today certainly among the Brahmsian masterpieces less performed in the concert hall, the Liebeslieder Walzer are none the less those who above all else went to decree the success in life of their author. On these short songs of a loving nature, taken from a collection of poems very popular in the 1800s, Brahms was literally able to build his own fortune so much was the immediate and striking success, especially the first series, that they obtained. Linked to the author’s visceral admiration for another leading figure of the Germanic 800 like Franz Schubert, they are performed by a close-knit sextet of musicians composed of pianists Francesca Cesaretti and Ilaria Torresan and by the vocal quartet with Stela Dicusară, Federica Cacciatore, Lorenzo Bonomi, and Alessandro Vannucci. The group decides to reveal a Brahmsian nature far from the powerful harmonic masses of the symphonies or from the troubled philosophy of the pages of the Requiem, they show us a composer perfectly capable of understanding well, perhaps too much, what the audience of the salons wanted and to satisfy him fully. The 4 hands piano arrangements by 20 Schubertian Landlers who complete the disc also reveal the nature of these works.
