Fantasias On Fantasias: After 12 Fantaisies Sans Basse TWV 40:2-13 – Maria De Martini

The name of Maria de Martini is not new to baroque music lovers, her approach to these fantasies will probably come like a lightning bolt as is the (re) inventive genius that underlies each of Telemann’s 12 fantasies. The title alludes to a sort of reinvention of passages that already had the basic aspect of improvisational freedom on the page. De Martini, with the use of several recorders, embroiders, wanders, returns, re-proposes and reinvents almost continuously every Telemanian bar while keeping the entire score intact, literally weaving now some counterpoints now some accompaniments that enrich the original score. and evoking like no other the wonder of making music of the Baroque period beyond the written music itself, combined with the technical knowledge acquired over the years in the most important Baroque ensembles and as a soloist.
