FRATM brings together accordionist Philippe Thuriot and trumpeter Carlo Nardozza in a deeply personal meeting of two musical worlds. Thuriot’s background in classical music, Bach and Scarlatti meets Nardozza’s roots in jazz and Neapolitan song, yet the result never feels like a collision of genres. Instead, the duo play with a shared instinct: lyrical, direct and closely connected to the joy of making music together.
The album began with the idea of recording music inspired by Piazzolla, but gradually became something more intimate. Rather than reproducing an established language, Thuriot and Nardozza chose to focus on music that felt completely their own. A decisive moment came with the death of Thuriot’s brother Christiaan, whose memory gave the project a new perspective. From that experience grew an album about friendship, brotherhood, loss and, above all, the importance of being there for one another.
That sense of closeness runs through the twelve original pieces, from “Valse à Christiaan” and “Cristianita” to “Amici,” “Freedom” and the title track “FRATM.” The music is virtuosic without becoming distant: songful, open and accessible, shaped by two musicians who learned from an early age that music could entertain, move and connect people.
