This Da Vinci Classics album constitutes the sixth volume of Maurizio Paciariello’s Beethoven recordings on the fortepiano. In this case, the music at the centre of this discographic project is constituted by Beethoven’s op. 2, i.e. the first three Piano Sonatas he published while providing them with an opus number. Dedicated to Haydn, they reveal both Beethoven’s dedication to the earlier tradition, and – perhaps even more clearly, – his groundreaking attitude, in terms of “orchestral” colors, form, style, virtuosity, and concept. Together, they demonstrate that young Bach was well aware of the traditional associations of the keys, for instance, and that he was willing to experiment with them in a very creative fashion.
