Georgian-born prodigy Inga Fiolia is the perfect guide to Glinka’s piano music. Her technique is solid and fluent, and she is clearly attuned to Glinka’s mode of expression; she has an ability to spin webs of beautiful sound as well as to negotiate the trickiest legerdemain. There is a surprising amount of competition in this repertoire, including Victor Ryabchikov (BIS), Ton Nu Nguyet Minh (Capriccio) and Valery Kamishov (Melodiya). Yet Fiolia plays with such affection and generosity of emotion she consistently comes out top of the pile.
