Francesco D’Ambrosio (1926-2003) was an Italian poet who sang, throughout his life, the beauty of his birthland. Ascea, near Salerno, in Campania, has a long history dating back to the 6th century BC. It is part of the Unesco World Heritage sites and has been a cultural centre of primary importance in the Greek era, with philosophers such as Parmenides and Zeno. Presently it is a gem of history and nature, inspiring poets such as D’Ambrosio, who gave voice to the importance of tradition – family, culture, identity, wisdom. Composer, pianist and conductor Luigi Mogrovejo wrote touching songs on the lyrics provided by D’Ambrosio.
