Some magical Mozart here from Angela Hewitt, who directs the Orchestra da Camera di Mantova with aplomb, zest and, most of all, style. Her pearly, accurate articulation in No 6 is closely related to Uchida’s mode of delivery in the same music, and she supplies her own exploratory cadenza. Hewitt and her players seem to be discovering this music on the wing, perhaps nowhere more so than in the central Andante of No 8, an aria in instrumental guise. Gentility is the order of the day – Hewitt’s legato is perfect, and the serenity here contrasts well with the wit of the first movement. Hewitt’s ‘Jeunehomme’ is up there with the …
