Coming so soon after the Accentus/Insula/ Equilbey Requiem for Naive, this inevitably suffers from comparison with the genuine revisionist thump of the earlier recording. On its own terms, though, it’s finely sung and with due notice of the work’s subtexts of mystery and fatality. The principal voices cut through a slightly – but not unpleasantly – boxy recording and the Sequenz section is handled with great internal consistency. First-rate, but Equilbey’s version is the preferred one for the moment. …
