I’m not sure for whom this mixed bag of a programme is intended. Recorded in 1981 in the wake of the wedding of the Prince of Wales to Lady Diana Spencer and presumably released that year, the programme includes music from their marriage ceremony as well as from two other significant royal services held at St Paul’s: the Queen’s Silver Jubilee celebration (1977) and the Queen Mother’s 80th Birthday Service. All the material is very well managed in the cathedral’s cavernous acoustics. One or two of the individual items are especially interesting – Mathias’s Let the people praise thee, O God, for example – but I can’t imagine one would …
