in Choir & Organ (Nov, 2018)
These live recordings were made during 2013 at the Royal Festival Hall, with the organ concerto recorded at the festival marking the refurbishment of the RFH organ in March 2014. The programme contains some of the best of Poulenc. He described his Piano Concerto (1949) as ‘a light concerto, a kind of souvenir of Paris for pianist-composer’. The Organ Concerto (1938), structured like a Buxtehude toccata, suits the RFH organ well, receiving an excellent performance. Orchestra, choir and soloist are in fine form for the Stabat Mater (1950), Poulenc’s first sacred composition for chorus and orchestra. A really interesting recording. …
