in Classical Music (Jul, 2012)
Warm, affectionate performances from this relatively new Japanese orchestra. If the soloist doesn’t quite live up to the promise of his birthplace (Tchaikovsky in the Urals), his account is deeply-felt. Saint-Saëns : Symphonie n° 1 – Concerto pour violoncelle. Gomziakov, Dumay.
Camille Saint-Saëns : La Muse et le poète, op. 132 (a). Concerto pour violoncelle n° 1 (b). Symphonie n° 1 (c).
Augustin Dumay (violon [a] et direction [a, b]), Pavel Gomziakov (violoncelle) (a, b), Orchestre philharmonique du Kansai, Sachio Fujioka (c), direction.
