Similar to Beethoven, Schubert is one of the composers who is infinitely appreciated by every performer. His output in the fields of symphony, Lieder and chamber music is a pillar in the history of music, with which every musician and composer had to enter into dialogue, always attempting to retrace and to continue the path marked by him. The new album by pianist Ingrid Carbone does not focus on the great Sonata forms, but rather on works with a more elusive and improvisational style, such as the Four Impromptus D 899 and the Six Moment Musicaux D 780. The constant theme of nearly all of Schubert’s output is the (metaphysical) journey and the quest for one’s self; here, the pianist from Cosenza demonstrates that she has perfectly caught the message of these scores, with her uncommon capability for introspection, and by putting her virtuosity in service to the composer’s deepest spirit, with a complex and multifaceted intimism offering a personal and fresh perspective on each page.
