Two other concertos recorded by La Stagione Frankfurt reappear on Florilegium’s latest disc, released to mark the group’s 25th anniversary. There is little to choose between the rival versions of the popular A minor concerto for recorder and viola da gamba (TWV 52:a1), and the E major concerto for flute, oboe d’amore and viola d’amore (TWV 53:E1), which I praised earlier, also sounds almost as lovely here, though the opening sunrise seems a little hurried; and, while the delicacy and finesse of Florilegium’s playing imparts a light, airy feel to the music that is initially very appealing, the end result leaves this concerto perhaps a lacking a little heft.
