Mark Elder’s conducting of Parsifal at the 2013 Proms has been captured brilliantly on this 4-disc set. He conducts the Hallé Orchestra with a calm and measured approach, letting the flow of the music speak for itself. There is a hypnotically slow propulsion to his interpretation, which is caught in excellent sound: the choral effects at the end of Act I are magical. The orchestral tone Elder elicits is silken, truly world class. Lars Cleveman sings Parsifal with clean tone and stamina.
