As the notes say, this is a collection of ‘Precious and rare flowers by Frescobaldi’, containing ‘Fiori’ (published pieces from Fiori Musicali, first and second books of Toccate, first book of Capricci) and ‘Fioretti’ (pieces from the Vatican and London manuscripts) played on a historic Italian organ in meantone temperament. The playing is authoritative and stylish, and I particularly liked the Cento partite (usually played on the harpsichord, but very effective on this organ). As such, this CD is a marvellous introduction to Frescobaldi. …
