Au Fil Du Temps: Journeys In Modern Organ Music Inspired By Gregorian Chant – Alberto Brigandì

What is known as “Gregorian” is a vast repertoire of plainchant whose earliest examples date back to the first millennium of Christianity, but which has continued to grow, to develop, to increase, until very recent times (the so-called Neo-Gregorian). Furthermore, plainchant tunes have been modified according to later taste and musical languages (some newer “Gregorian” works are much more tonal than modal), or to rhythmic needs, frequently dictated by the use of Gregorian tunes within more modern compositions (e.g. polyphony).
