Beethoven, Brahms, Britten, Schubert: Spiritual Arias – Mauro Borgioni

This collection of “Spiritual Songs” creates a fascinating artistic itinerary touching the deepest questions of the human being. Mauro Borgioni, an internationally-acclaimed soloist, and pianist Chiara Bertoglio, interpret a selection of Geistliche Lieder from the German tradition. The CD includes two important premieres by composers such as Britten and Brahms: both realized arrangements after models by Bach (Britten’s Five Spiritual Songs and Brahms’ Ach Gott, wie manches Herzeleid) which are recorded here for the first time. Bach’s influence is also observed behind Beethoven’s Gellert Lieder and Brahms’ touching and intense Vier ernste Gesänge, while Schubert’s spiritual songs portray with delicateness and deep emotions the themes of prayer, of death, of hope, and of the beauty of nature. Together, these works lead us into a world of contemplation and spirituality, through the means of musical art.
