Brahms: Piano Music On Period Instruments – Alice Baccalini

Listening to Brahms’s piano works both on record and in the concert hall is not rare, indeed, he is probably alongside Chopin, Schumann, Schubert and Liszt among the most loved by critics, enthusiasts and professionals. Being able to listen to it on historical instruments, however, is something that is still rare to say the least and that only recently has a new generation of valid interpreters, such as Alice Baccalini, seen to turn to the original instruments to find the most authentic sound of the work. In this project Baccalini does not limit himself to just one instrument, but chooses three (Érard, 1871; Pleyel, 1875; Steinway & Sons, 1879) associating them with as many compositions (Scherzo Op. 4; Variazioni Handel; Klavierstücke, op. 119) ) thus partly redefining its aesthetics and allowing the experience of a musical discovery which, despite the notoriety of the chosen works, is always new and revitalizing.
