In the era of the great conductors, many were appreciated, admired, even idolized. Bruno Walter was loved. He was as strict during rehearsals, as demanding of his musicians as any conductor, but he exuded an aura of benevolence. In a way, this matched Walter’s particular affinity for Viennese classical music, especially Mozart, whose symphonies, concertos, operas and sacred vocal works were part of his repertoire.
