The musical form of the Suite is among the oldest known. It began as a collection of dances; in the Renaissance and during the whole Baroque period innumerable composers dedicated themselves to it, Bach and Rameau being possibly the best-known examples. This form never ceased to evolve, continuing to fascinate composers of all times, up to the end of the nineteenth century and throughout the entire twentieth century. The album by the Metis Piano Duo focuses precisely on this last period, beginning with Fauré and arriving to Barber, and comprising some of the most significant works in our recent historical past. This album does not aim at comparing four composers who are utterly different from each other in style, aesthetic approach and though; rather, it wishes to demonstrate that the same structure, prebuilt centuries ago, can still represent an efficacious starting point for the development of a musical dialogue which can always renew itself with freshness and lightness, while never overlooking a profound language.
