En 1726, François Couperin, alors au sommet de sa carrière, publie Les Nations, un recueil où il associe la verve de la sonate italienne, inspirée par Corelli, à l’élégance de la suite à la française.
Fidèle à sa conception des goûts réunis, Couperin est convaincu que les esthétiques française et italienne doivent concourir ensemble à la perfection de la musique.
Jean-Luc Ho et ses partenaires nous en proposent une version riche en couleurs instrumentales variées, suivant la liberté d’exécution que Couperin lui-même évoquait dans l’Avis de son Apothéose de Monsieur Lully.
In 1726, François Couperin, then at the peak of his career, published Les Nations, a collection in which he brought together the verve of the Italian sonata, inspired by Corelli, with the elegance of the French suite.
True to his vision of united tastes, Couperin was convinced that the French and Italian aesthetics should strive together towards the perfecting of music.
Jean-Luc Ho and his colleagues offer us a version with a wealth of varied instrumental colours, observing the freedom of performance that Couperin himself described in the foreword to his Apothéose de Monsieur Lully.
