This Da Vinci Classics CD is the first volume of the complete organ works by Giovanni Morandi. This composer, little known outside the circles of organists, is a figure of prime standing in the development of the Italian organ school. Coming from a family of musicians and having married a star singer, Morandi traveled throughout Europe with his wife, encountering the major musical currents of the era. After his wife’s death, he settled in a city of the Marche, by the sea, where he lived a very active and productive life. His output comprises a substantial portion of highly stimulating organ works, demonstrating his interest in a properly conceived sacred music, capable of distancing itself from operatic or dance influences, but also of preserving a high originality and a captivating style.
