This second volume of Da Vinci Classic’s publication of Giovanni Morandi’s complete organ works is a telling witness and document about its composer’s inventiveness and genius. After having toured Europe with his wife, a famous singer, Morandi settled in the city of Senigallia, in the Italian region of Marche, after her death. There, he devoted his energies to composition, organization, performance and teaching. In particular, his interest in the world of organ was expressed in a number of publications, mainly grouping individual movements conceived for Mass Offertory, Elevation and Post-Communion. The works recorded here bear witness both to Morandi’s brilliant gifts as an orchestrator (as displayed by his imitation of various instruments on the organ) and to his non-conventional approach to musical form.
